St Columb's College
KS3 Science
Overview
Welcome to the Science department. It is our aim to deliver an integrated Key stage Three Science course in Years 8 and 9. It combines elements of Biology, Chemistry and Physics, as well as Investigative Science and ICT skills. Pupils are given opportunities to acquire practical scientific skills through a wide range of active learning strategies. This encourages our pupils to develop understanding of the processes of Science as well as content of scientific knowledge. Biology, Chemistry and Physics are taught by subject specialists as separate disciplines in Year 10. We refer to this as Foundation GCSE Science.
Our Key Stage Three Science programme is designed for our pupils:
To appreciate the role and importance of Science in the world around us
To stimulate curiosity and acquire skills of scientific enquiry to investigate new situations
To provide opportunities for pupils to develop practical skills including the safe use of scientific equipment
To enable pupils to think critically and apply problem solving knowledge in a methodical and analytical way
To become scientifically literate and therefore able contributors to our STEM based society.
