St Columb's College
English
Overview
Welcome to Saint Columb's College English Department; we strive to offer high quality teaching and learning, child-centred provision and effective leadership. We imbue our students with high expectations and the skills and confidence to achieve these expectations; every boy is encouraged "Aspire to the Higher Gifts"
We are a department connected to its local community as well as providing a link to our illustrious alumni like Seamus Heaney and Brian Friel.
It is very important to this Department that we embed whole-school aspirations into our daily teaching; we also strive to create and sustain a distinctive subject identity; all our English teachers regard this as one of our main priorities; both pupil and teacher achievements will be recognised and celebrated publicly as an acknowledgment of the great work being done and also as a promotion of the subject itself, which offers such great opportunities to our boys up to A-Level and beyond.
Love of Literature is at the heart of our work but the Thinking Skills and Personal Capabilities, developed through a tailored programme of study based on the core requirements of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening, inform all of our lessons.
