ScreenWorks has a few places remaining for next week’s work experience opportunity – Music Composition with Mark Gordon from Score Draw Music (http://www.scoredrawmusic.com/)

This would be of great interest to music students and any media/MIA students who want to learn more about this aspect of filmmaking. It will be highly practical and introduce participants to industry standard software and various aspects of sound recording, including Cubase.

The programme will take place from Monday 3rd – Friday 7th October (10am-4pm each day) in our offices in Belfast. It is aimed at ages 14-19 and travel bursaries are available for those travelling from outside Belfast.

More information about Mark is below, and as you’ll see, it promises to be a very rewarding experience for students. After all, it’s not every day your students get the chance to do work experience with someone who’s worked with Dolly Parton!

Mark Gordon started Score Draw Music in 2004 after a career as a musician that included recording 4 Peel Sessions, playing live shows in the USA, Russia and Japan, and having tracks he had co-written placed on shows such as Malcolm in the Middle and Sesame Street.

His composition work in Score Draw Music has included co-writing music for Dolly Parton to sing in a children’s animation series, a co-write in the 2018 Oscar-winning film The Shape of Water, and ongoing work across film, television and animation- as well as running the company on a day to day basis.

Outside of the company Mark is a member of the Ivors Academy Media Committee Board, dealing with ongoing issues for media composers around copyright, skills and opportunities. He also sits on the Future Screens NI Board, delivering expert technical skills, opportunity and growth across film and broadcast, animation, games and immersive technologies and industries in Northern Ireland. Mark also programmes Output Belfast - Ireland’s largest music conference.

Interested students should apply via www.intofilm.org/screenworks. A full list of our available programmes between now and Christmas is also available here.
