Lockers

In St Columb’s you will be given books for every subject which you study.  It is very important to remember the correct books for the appropriate class.

Saint Columb

One way to do this is to carry around all your books which you need for the whole day!  As you can imagine, however, carrying your books around all at once will result in your school bag becoming very heavy!

To avoid this problem, we allocate every pupil a locker in which to keep their belongings.

There are a number of other reasons why pupils should use their lockers and bag storage areas properly:

1. It teaches pupils that they are responsible for looking after and organising their books and other resources.
2. It helps teachers to teach and pupils to learn more effectively.
3. It contributes towards a safer and tidier environment for everyone.

This locker will be yours for the whole year - so it is very important to learn how to use it properly.

You are allowed to visit your locker at the following times each day:

• Before Registration Period;
• During morning breaktime;
• At the start of lunch and at the end of lunch;
• Before and after P.E. (on the day that you have it);
• After last period.

locker tips

Here are some helpful hints for using the locker:

1. Keep your locker key in a safe place; you may want to keep it with your own personal keys.  You are also expected to get a spare locker key cut and give it to your Form Tutor.
2. Make out a copy of your timetable and put it up inside your locker - you may want to make a list of which books to bring to which subjects.
3. If you put your lunch in your locker, make sure you do not leave any food behind at the end of the day.
4. Put afternoon books in lockers each morning.  Put morning books in their lockers after lunch.
5. Keep the books in your locker very organised- this will ensure that you can find the books you need easily.
6. You may want to put up a list of the homeworks you will be doing each night, on the inside of your locker - this will help to remind you which books to take home in the evening.
7. Keep PE gear in lockers on designated PE days only.  Remember to take your PE kit home with you - don’t leave it in the locker in case it walks out of its own accord!
8. Only store belongings in your own locker.
9. Avoid storing valuables in lockers.

Form Tutors will normally inspect lockers once a term to ensure proper usage. This will usually be done in the presence of the pupil.

Pupils should initially discuss any problems with their Form Tutor. He/she will then advise them on an appropriate course of action.

If the Form Tutor cannot resolve the problem, pupils should contact:

Mr M Tracey (Technology 6)

All locker problems should be reported before 9.10 a.m. each morning.
