Drama at St Columb's College...
. The Department of Drama is a vibrant and expanding department, which places a major emphasis on the creative interrelationship between practice and theory. Staff members are active and committed. These are Mr. D. Chambers ( Drama Co-ordinator), Mr. B. McGinn and Mr R. Horner. Our aim is to provide the fullest implementation of the Drama Curriculum entitlement at key Stage three via a twelve week programme for all classes of year 9 pupils in St. Columb’s. In the academic year 2010/2011 pupils will explore social issues which affect both family and school lives..
Firstly they will explore the theme of BULLYING in which pupils will explore and respond to the views and feelings of fictional characters within the context of the issue of bullying. In addition they will explore the family issue of RUNAWAYS. Here too pupils will explore and respond to the views and feelings of fictional characters within the context of the subject – teenage runaways/homelessness.
Both schemes are designed to encourage pupils to explore their own attitudes in relation to the personal and moral dilemmas inherent in the subject matter and they will express themselves imaginatively and emotionally through involvement in drama activities and the use of drama strategies.
Drama has an expansive role in the school, contributing generously to the realisation of our current school show, ‘Big River’, and more broadly aiming to develop the personal confidence and self-esteem of all our pupils. We are also looking to possible future developments in providing opportunities for G.C.S.E. Drama and Curriculum Enrichment provision for our AS/A2 pupils.
